Day of the Dead purification lodge
The Day of the Dead celebration began in the Aztec, Toltec, and Nahua cultures thousands of years ago when mourning was considered disrespectful. Death can represent freedom from physical suffering and is part of the process of life. We are birthed from the spirit realm and we return to it when our physical body dies. In Appalachia we have “Decoration Day” when families come together in cemeteries where their loved ones are buried. It’s a time of family reunion, decorating the graves with flowers, and often sharing food. Honoring our ancestors by celebrating them teaches us a more joyful perspective of the human journey that is “life” and prepares us for the day we too become spirits!
Join us in a Purification Lodge Ceremony to honor our ancestors who have crossed over. There is never a charge for ceremony. We do give medicine gifts to the fire crew and dance chief for their giveaway, and donations are accepted for lodge upkeep. RSVP Kelly to reserve your spot and receive the protocols for the ceremony.
